1976

My first run was 1/4 mile on the beach at Sarasota, FL. My entire first year of running was done barefoot. - 1/76

1977

My first official race was a 10K sponsored by the Sarasota Herald Tribune. My time: 62 minutes. - 2/77

 

For the next five years, I was into social running, competing in 5K, 10K and a few 9 mile races. A marathon seemed totally impossible.

1982

Philadelphia Independence Marathon. My time: 3:32

1985

Chicago Marathon. My time: 3:235:87

 

Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. My time: 1:32

1987

Columbus Marathon. DNF. I had gone to qualify for Boston and when I saw that wasn't going to happen, I chose to stop.

1988

Siberian Express, a 7.6 mile run in Danville, Illinois - 1/88

 

Charlotte Marathon (this one was slow, but it was a "psyche" run to overcome not having finished Columbus two months earlier.) - 1/88

 

Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon - 5/88

 

50 miles as a pacer for a friend who competed in the Huntsville "Double Ironman" - 9/88

 

50K (31 miles) in the Midwest Running Festival - 10/88

 

Tregate Ultra 60K (38 miles) - 11/88

 

Frankfort to Louisville, KY 50 mile road race - 12/88

1989

Siberian Express - 1/89

 

Longbeach Marathon. My time: 3:52 - 5/89

 

Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon

 

I made a solo run from Athens Greece to Marathon - 6/89

 

Morgan Monroe State Park 10 mile run - 8/89

 

Blueberry Stomp 15K, Plymouth, IN - 9/89

 

Glacial Trail Run 100K (62 miles). My time: 11:39 - 10/89

 

JFK 50 mile trail run. My time: 9:07 - 11/89

1990

Siberian Express - 1/90

 

Strolling Jim 40 mile road race. My time: 6:24 - 5/90

 

43 miles as a pacer for a friend running his first 100 mile run - 6/90

 

Vermont Trail 100 mile run. My time: 22:42. This made me the fastest Hoosier at a 100 mile distance. - 7/90

 

Golden Horseshoe 50 mile run. My time: 8:35PR - 9/90

 

Pine Mountain Trail Run, 46 miles. My time: 10:06 - 11/90

 

150 mile stage run across Indiana as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity (50 miles a day for three days)

1991

Siberian Express - 1/91

 

Passing for Sane 50K in Florida - 2/91

 

Began running in San Francisco with the goal of running to Washington DC. The total mileage was 2707, of which I ran 1900 and cycled the rest. This was an awareness-raiser for Habitat for Humanity called "Shore to Shore in 104". I arrived in Washington, DC on September 27, 1991. - 6/91

1992

Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K, Tampa, FL - 2/92

 

Leadville, Colorado Trail 100 mile (DNF) - 8/92

 

Invited runner in the Trans Colorado 500K (a 310 mile, 50 mile per day stage race to raise money for the homeless shelters of Colorado) - 9/92

 

Chicago Marathon - 10/92

1993

Successfully completed 104 marathons in a single calendar year, at that time a world record, as noted in the U.S. Congressional Record, 2/6/94

1994

Inaugural Disney World Marathon - 1/94

 

Freeze Your Fanny 4 mile run in Sundance, Wyoming - 1/94

 

Sweetheart Run 5K in Rapid City, SD - 2/94

 

L.A. Marathon - 3/94

 

Ice Age 50 mile trail run. My time: 10:46 - 5/94

 

Invited runner in the Siberian International Marathon in Omsk, Siberia - 8/94

 

Black Hills Marathon - 9/94

50K (31 miles) on an indoor track to celebrate my 50th birthday. I had planned 50 miles outside, but the South Dakota weather kept even me inside!

 

"A Marathon of Marathons"
As my way of celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Boston Marathon, I began running the entire course on March 21st and ran it every day for 26 consecutive days. - 3/96

 

Wall to Wall 5K - 7/96

 

Elk Mountain 100K trail run (62 miles). My time: 14:18

 

Mt. Rushmore International Marathon - 10/96

1997

Freeze Your Fanny 4 mile run - 1/97

 

New Orleans Marathon - 1/97

 

Shamrock Shuffle 4 mile run, Indianapolis, IN - 3/97

 

As a promotion for the Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini-Marathon and the Finish Line stores, I ran the 13.1 mile course 13 days in a row. - 4/97

 

Coeur d'Alene Marathon, Coeur d'Alene, ID - 5/97

 

Megan's 24 Hour Track Run . . . 74 miles in 16 hours, then a five hour nap, then ran the Portland Marathon in 5:31:23, thus accomplishing my goal of 100 miles in less than 30 hours elapsed time, in addition to raising $600 for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) - 9/97

1998

13 consecutive runnings of the Los Angeles Marathon - 3/98

 

29 consecutive runnings of the New York Marathon - 11/98

1999

14 consecutive runnings of the Los Angeles Marathon. See Achievements page for more details on 1999 runs.

2000
